EU Settlement Scheme
Settle and Pre-Settled Status Application
The EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) allows EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens, as well as their family members, to secure their status in the UK after Brexit. Depending on how long you have been living in the UK, you can apply for either Settled or Pre-Settled Status.
Settled Status
Settled Status is granted to EU, EEA, or Swiss citizens who have been living continuously in the UK for five years or more. It provides indefinite leave to remain, allowing you to live, work, and access public funds in the UK without any immigration restrictions.
Pre-Settled Status
Pre-Settled Status is for EU, EEA, or Swiss citizens who have been living in the UK for less than five years at the time of application. It allows you to stay in the UK for a further five years from the date it is granted. During this period, you can work and study in the UK without any restrictions.
Residence Permits under EU Settlement Scheme
Under the EU Settlement Scheme, successful applicants will receive a digital status confirming their immigration status in the UK. This can be accessed online and used as proof of your right to live and work in the country.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the EU Settlement Scheme, you must:
- Be an EU, EEA, or Swiss citizen, or a family member of one.
- Have started living in the UK by 31 December 2020 (or by the date the UK left the EU without a deal).
- Meet the residence requirements based on your continuous residence in the UK.
